Fully healed after undergoing micro-laryngeal surgery in January, Tyler Farr is gearing up for the 2017 release of his third album. First up is “Our Town,” a kickoff single that splashes his vocal rasp across palm-muted guitars and arena-rock percussion.

“We love, we don’t hate / The world that’s gone crazy, it don’t have a place here in our town,” goes the chorus, which spins a familiar tale of small-town values and countryfied civic pride. Co-written by Liz Rose, Nathan Chapman and solo artist Seth Ennis, the song is the first we’ve heard from Farr’s follow-up to 2015’s Suffer in Peace, but that album’s promo cycle – including an extensive tour with Lee Brice – was cut short by the singer’s vocal problems. Farr and Aldean remain friends and collaborators, with theThey Don’t Know chart-topper producing half of Farr’s upcoming record. Jim Catino and Julian King share production credits on the album’s remaining songs, including “Our Town.”

This week, Farr wraps up the final three dates of Brad Paisley’s Life Amplified World Tour. A handful of festival appearances and one-off headlining dates will carry him through the end of 2016, paving the way for a new album – and new singles – sometime next year.
