Texomans and Americans across the country are playing for a chance to win nearly half a billion dollars Friday.
The Mega Millions Jackpot has ballooned all the way up to $540 million dollars. It’s one of the biggest Mega Millions drawings ever.
Carl Durham was one of many people who purchased their lottery ticket Thursday night inside the Fill-N-Chill located off Northwest Freeway in Wichita Falls. Durham said that he knows he has picked the lucky numbers and spoke about how he would share his earnings with his grandkids.
“It would go straight to their college fund and the rest I would spend on travel. So for me, I would spend it on travel and college tuition. I would take care of my grandkids first,” said Durham.
While he isn’t sure exactly where he is going to travel yet, Durham said that he is sure he would use the winnings to help his family beyond just his grandkids.
Tickets cost around a dollar each. If you are lucky enough to win, you can choose to either take the winnings in portions over a twenty-nine-year period or take a lump sum payment in a one-time payout of around $380 million dollars.
The players choose six numbers made up of five regular numbers and a yellow mega ball number. All numbers must correctly match all the digits that are drawn on Friday at 10 pm Central time. However, no one has been that lucky for the past four months and players have about a 259 million to one chance of winning.
