Crews Continue To Work Fiery Train Collision Wreckage In Panhandle

trainFirst responders remain on scene of Tuesday’s head-on train collision near Panhandle.

The fire continued to smolder until operations were suspended due to heavy rains moving through the area.

Multiple agencies are still standing by to assist with whatever efforts are needed.

Since rain has stopped, crews have started working to remove debris from the tracks. Then the investigation will be underway.

We know that one train involved in the accident was heading for Los Angeles and the other was headed for Chicago when they collided around 8:00 Tuesday morning.

The speed limit for this rail area is 70 miles per hour, but BNSF officials say neither train was traveling that fast.

We have been told by officials on scene the trains were carrying mixed freight and consumer products.

Four people were on board at the time of the crash. Rescue crews are still searching for 3 people, while one man has been accounted for and is recovering this morning at Northwest Texas Hospital.

We will continue to bring you details as they unfold on NewsChannel 10.
