It’s been nearly three years since Pam Tillis put out an album of original in the form of Dos Divas, the colorful 2013 project she recorded with her pal Lorrie Morgan. It’s even farther back — nearly 10 years — since Tillis’ last solo album Rhinestoned appeared in 2007.

Tillis, who played a Nashville-area gig at the Franklin Theatre over the weekend, scored a Number One in 1994 with “Mi Vida Loca” and numerous top 10s such as “Maybe It Was Memphis” and “Let that Pony Run.” The progeny of Grand Ole Opry star Mel Tillis, she is reportedly working to close the gap between her releases with a new album that is inspired by the country side of Seventies pop.

“I’m a huge Bonnie Raitt fan,” Tillis tells The Tennessean, “and some of the pop music was very influenced by country at the time — Linda Ronstadt, Kenny Loggins, the Eagles — so there’s a bit of that vibe on there.”

Tillis hopes to have the album out by the end of 2016, though she’s in no rush. Next up for her is a July 20th gig in Bowling Green, Kentucky, as part of the Rev’n Rods and Heartland Music Tour.
