Carrie Underwood Will Rework ‘Somethin’ Bad’ For New ‘Sunday Night Football’ Theme

NBC will premiere a fresh theme for Sunday Night Football this fall, AP reports.

For a decade, the theme was “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” which was adapted from Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself for Loving You.” Pink! performed it first, then Faith Hill, then Carrie Underwood.

“The song had lasted 10 years,” SNF executive producer Fred Gaudelli told AP. “But I didn’t know how much more we could stay with the song without it feeling routine.” When Carrie Underwood played him a modified demo of “Somethin’ Bad,” he found the successor he was looking for. “It has such a great stomp-clap, a ‘We Will Rock You’ kind of feel to it,” Underwood explained. “This is such a high energy song.”

“Somethin’ Bad” originally appeared as a duet between Underwood and Miranda Lambert on Lambert’s Platinum album in 2014. It was written by Chris DeStefano, Brett James, and Priscilla Renea. The song peaked at Number 19 on the Hot 100, and it was a Number 1 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart. Listen to the original below.
