Brett Eldredge was about to perform at Kansas Speedway before a Nascar race when he came up with the idea for “Wanna Be That Song.” But when it came time to shoot a video for his latest single, the Illinois native went a totally different sports route: to Wrigley Field.

“I spent a lot of time in [Chicago]; it’s like my second home,” he tells People magazine. “It’s the first music video ever shot at one of the most historical sporting facilities in the world! It was one of the most amazing experiences of my career so far.”

The clip begins in black-and-white, seemingly in the 1940s, with a young boy telling his girlfriend he’s going to play at Wrigley someday, while they sit in the stands watching a game. It then shows him growing up to fulfill his dream — with Eldredge playing the 20-something version of the boy, who is now a Cubs star. The video then alternates between present-day Eldredge singing in the stadium and baseball-great Eldredge rounding the bases as he flashes back to romantic times with his onscreen wife.

The title of the new tune came to the singer-songwriter literally seconds before he took the Kansas Speedway stage in the spring of 2014. It was a few months later that it resurfaced in a writing session with Scooter Carusoe and Ross Copperman. Eldredge now says it’s his favorite among all tracks in his catalog.

“‘Wanna Be That Song’ has everything I want to say about love and about what I’m trying to be,” he tells Rolling Stone Country. “I wanna be that part of your life, that song that means so much to you, the one that takes you back to that special place. . . the song that makes you laugh, the song that makes you cry when you need to cry, that makes you dance when you need to dance.”
